International Conference on Achievements and Prospects of China-EU Diplomatic Relations (2025) Successfully Held in Guangzhou

On September 22, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, the International Conference on Achievements and Prospects of China-EU Diplomatic Relations (2025) was jointly held by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Royal Danish Consulate General in Guangzhou (EU Presidency) and Guangdong Institute for International Strategies. Nearly one hundred representatives from the political, business, and academic communities of China and Europe attended the event. CEST’s Board Member Zheng Yongqiang was also invited to deliver a presentation.

The President of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Yan Xiangbin, Inspector at Level 2 of Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province Qiu Huilin, and Consul General of Denmark in Guangzhou Søren Bindesbøll gave opening remarks at the event. Consul General of Belgium in Guangzhou Wim Peeters, Consul General of Poland in Guangzhou Piotr Nowotniak, Deputy Consul General of Italy in Guangzhou Cataldo Cianciaruso, Consul General of Germany in Guangzhou Josefine WALLAT, Consul General of Greece in Guangzhou Georgia Andreadi, Consul General of Portugal in Guangzhou Tomás Van Asch de Azevedo, Consul General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou Efstathios Andreou, Consul General of Spain in Guangzhou Emilio de Miguel, Consul General of France in Guangzhou Laurent Legodec, and representatives from the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and other experts and scholars from China and Europe delivered presentations respectively.

In his presentation titled “Practices and Prospects of China-Europe Green Energy Industry Cooperation in the New Era,” Zheng Yongqiang emphasized that China and Europe share common goals and strong complementarities in the green energy sector. In recent years, China has accelerated its development in wind and solar power, leveraging its market and scale advantages. The European Union, meanwhile, has introduced a comprehensive roadmap for the hydrogen energy industry and, through a range of supporting policies, has advanced its industrialization, cultivating several globally leading technologies. These complementarities create broad prospects for bilateral cooperation. He also highlighted CEST’s efforts and achievements in promoting scientific and technological exchanges and industrial collaboration between the two regions. Looking ahead, Mr. Zheng expressed CEST’s commitment to further deepening cooperation in green energy and fostering more tangible outcomes in China-Europe green energy projects.

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. This event has further strengthened mutual trust and is expected to generate more fruitful outcomes in bilateral cooperation.
